Many of the children have recently had spring break. For many parents spring break represents the changing of seasons, new beginnings, a fresh start or a sense of readiness to bring the winter season to an end. I am confident that we are all springing forth into the next level of our lives as we have flown through the first three months of 2013. Recently I had to take a step back and reevaluate some things in my own personal life. I began to assess the level of quality relationships where I am an active participant. I also assessed the number of commitments that I had on the table as well as the manner in which I was allocating my finances. Immediately, I noticed an unhealthy trend, in so many areas of my life, I found myself delepleted because I was putting out far more than I was bringing in. I was overcompensating in all of my relationships, because I was either trying to maintain the peace, contain the chaos, pacify the needs of others or tragically attempting to maintain my superwoman image. Secondly, I was unconsciously ignoring my own personal needs and doing a rather pathetic job of providing myself with the utmost self care. As frightening and uncomfortable as it was I realized that I had arrived at a very crucial intersection of my life and as a result, I made a conscious decision to push the pause button and silence the chaos of life.
In pushing the pause button and silencing the chaos of life, I had to make some very difficult decisions. I decided to deactivate my Facebook account (yes me the QUEEN of Facebook!) I decided to take better care of myself, emotionally, spiritually and most importantly physically. In pushing the pause button, I realized that I had not been as serious as I needed to be about the completion of my doctoral program. In my moment of pausing and basking in silence, I was able to hear clearly the beat of my heart and get back to dancing to the tune of my own drum, rather than the drum that was infused with all of the chaos from the overwhelming chatter of the world. I was able to silence the chaos of life, by retreating back to my personal and sacred place of peace and embracing every single moment of it. I employ you to consider whether or not you can possibly benefit from pushing the pause button and silencing the chaos of life. What can you do to ensure that 2013 ends up being one of your most productive years? What can you do to ensure that the goals you have set out to achieve will be accomplished by the end of 2013? What do you need to set as a high priority on your too do list? What do you need to do to ensure that your needs are met first and foremost, before you throw on your magical cape and set out on your bon voyage to tend to the needs of everyone else. I double dare you to push the pause button and silence the chaos of your life.
